Vendor Spotlight: Finch Creek Farm

ree

When Farmer Cass first had a well dug on his property back in 2011, he wasn’t just investing in the land, he was planting the first seed of what would become Finch Creek Farm. Two years later, in 2013, Cass officially took the leap into full-time farming, and he’s been growing good food and even better soil ever since.

Today, Finch Creek Farm cultivates just over five acres, including three 100-foot no-till high tunnels where Cass experiments with methods that prioritize soil health. Cover crops, reduced plastic use, and careful observation all play a part in his process. Cass is a numbers guy who closely tracks yields and tests different planting and watering techniques to find what produces the best crops and the healthiest soil.

That thoughtful approach has earned Finch Creek Farm recognition and support, including a Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) grant, which helps farmers build on existing conservation efforts while adopting new, sustainable practices. CSP recipients commit to a five-year contract, during which their sustainability practices are carefully measured and continually improved. Finch Creek Farm has already completed a five-year grant and is applying for a second one this year, cementing Cass’s dedication to sustainability.
