A letter from the Market Manager: Celebrating One Year as Market Manager

ree

This month marks my one-year anniversary as the Manager of the Barrow County Farmers Market, and what a year it has been! While it has been a difficult year for me personally, the market community has supported me in ways above and beyond what I could have ever imagined. That spirit of care and connection is what makes our market so special. I am deeply grateful.

Here are a few highlights from our last year and a glimpse towards the future:

  • Building Community Connections: Over the past year, we’ve welcomed new vendors, strengthened relationships with long-time favorites, and created a vibrant space where neighbors gather every week. From farm-fresh produce to handmade goods, every Saturday has been a reminder of the hard work and dedication of our local growers and makers.

  • Growing & Expanding Together: This season, we expanded our Kids Club activities, giving children more opportunities to learn, play, and connect with their food in fun, hands-on ways. We also hosted several special events that brought our community together in celebration of food, farming, and fellowship.

We’ve grown our SNAP/EBT program through our partnership with Wholesome Wave Georgia, helping more families stretch their grocery dollars and bring home healthy, local food. We also opened our doors to new nonprofits at our community booth, giving local organizations the opportunity to connect directly with market-goers.

  • Market Season Continues: The Barrow County Farmers Market runs every Saturday from 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM through the fall. Mark your calendars for our Fall Festival on Saturday, November 22nd, when the market will extend hours from 8:30 AM – 2:00 PM for a day filled with fresh food, fun, and community celebration.

  • Looking Ahead: As we look toward the next season, I’m excited to keep building on these successes. We’re planning more cooking demonstrations, family-friendly activities, and new opportunities for community connection. Above all, I remain committed to keeping the Barrow County Farmers Market a place where farmers, makers, and families thrive together.

Keep an eye out here on our blog and our social media for more updates from me, including market announcements, vendor highlights, and updates on special events. The Barrow County Farmers Market is a non-profit organization, run mostly by dedicated volunteers and supported by generous sponsors and vendor fees. It truly takes a community to make the market possible each week.

To our vendors, volunteers, sponsors, and especially our shoppers, thank you. Your support keeps the market growing. This community is the heart of the market, and I am honored to serve it. Here’s to another year of growth, resilience, and fresh food for all!

Your market manager,

Jennifer Venegas
